And Ascent of Mont Baudile …

Video doesn’t work? A larger-sized quicktime version can he found here

Maybe a good idea anyway as the size above is quite small. This is part of a series we hope to update looking at the work in the vineyard and chai as it progresses during 2009.

You can  subscribe to updates as we progress through the year at La Peira on Itunes here

Any comments or suggestions, or anything you’d like to see, do tell us!

Berry Bros gives La Peira Property a Great Write-up (Just in time for Jeremie Depierre’s Birthday)

March 9, 2009

We really want to start posting about the work on the vineyard in 2009 but….

Jérémie Depierre, whose winemaking experiences at La Pèira have seen him change from a youth into somewhat of a battle-scarred veteran, is turning 30 on the eleventh of this month.

We’re trying to make him feel good about this momentous occasion and thought this might help.

We’ve worked with Jérémie from when everything was running on belief and scraps of faith. So no change there…

Berry Bros. &  Rudd’s great La Pèira write-up

Discover these four fantastic wines from one of our most exciting new finds from the Languedoc, La Pièra. Located close to the iconic Mas De Daumas Gassac and la Grange des Peres, this property seems destined, at the very least, to share their very fine reputation.

New In: La Pèira

I have, for several years, been privileged to taste alongside Andrew Jefford on the Decanter Wine Awards Languedoc panel. Andrew’s knowledge of the region and his beautiful descriptions of the wines are without equal. It was therefore hugely exciting when he introduced me to La Pèira, with the unequivocal assurance that this was probably the most exciting new property that he has ever come across in this region.

Tasting the wines, it was easy to see why; every single wine is an absolute stunner; from the magisterial complexity of the white, Deusyls, through to the three reds which pretty much cover the spectrum of expectation from a great red wine; Les Obriers is fruity yet dense, Las Flors is rich yet magnificently intricate and La Pèira en Damaisèla is a terrific vin de garde, worthy of extended cellaring.

One may not be able to ascent the poetic Olympus of Jeffordian description, but one is certainly fully in agreement with his opinion and completely bowled over by the quality of the wines. Located close to the iconic Mas De Daumas Gassac and la Grange des Peres, this property seems destined, at the very least, to share their very fine reputation.

A Tale of Two Videos…& the Terrasses du Larzac

January 14, 2009

The last post spoke of the early days of our mission to try and capture the contours of the Terrasses du Larzac landscape in a glass bottle.

It may have said a lot about us then, but it didn’t reflect the region – or our tenderness for it and the people we work with – or the wines we make very much.

So here it is again…

Many thanks to Sarah Francis (AKA Mighty Blonde) for reviewing our Las Flors de La Pèira 2005 here.

To Jonathan Seeds (BestDrinkEver) for reviewing our Obriers de La Pèira 2005 here. Not the greatest review ever Jonathan but we appreciate it!

Also to Gary Vaynerchuk (again!) putting up full reviews of our La Pèira 2005 (99/100), Las Flors de La Pèira 2005 (95/100), and Deusyls de la Pèira 2006 (95/100)!

Finally: Thanks to those who emailed us about the Obriers 2005. Expect a bottle sent to your address soon!

Obriers de la Peira Harvest 2005 Film

January 7, 2009

Obriers de la Pèira Harvest 2005 @ the Old Chai | La Pèira

We’ve always done things before we were ready.

When we first harvested in 2005 the tanks for vinification only arrived 14 days before the grapes did. To be honest by that point we had been growing grapes all year without anywhere certain to receive the harvest at all.

In that spirit – although we have a beautiful film of the 05 harvest in progress – we’ re putting up some footage shot from a mobile phone during the Obriers de la Peira 05 harvest.

It captures the scrappy ways of our beginning, and shows the sorting process the grapes go through before being transported on a conveyor belt elevator into the (then recently arrived) Inox tanks.

Taste the Obriers de la Peira 2005

We had a great start to the New Year with the Wine Library TV naming our La Peira 05 as the wine of the year, and recording a great review of the Obriers 06.

So we’ve set aside a case of the wine being harvested above to give away as individual bottles for anyone curious to taste!

Just drop us a line before the end of this week (Sunday 11th of January) at roth109ataoldotcom, or at any of the links below with (a) La Peira and (b) the four letters that each of the four wines we make begin with in the subject, and, with the first 12 received, we’ll send a free bottle of the Obriers de la Peira 2005 to your address!

La Peira on Wine Library TV

Wine Library TV | New Years Resolution | Episode #602

Obriers de la La Pèira 06 & La Pèira 05

La Pèira started the New Year with a Bang with Wine Library TV reviewing the Obriers de la La Pèira 2006, and Gary Vaynerchuk on our top Cuvée, La Pèira:

‘I had their $100 cuvee when I was there and thought it might be my wine of the year…I look back at my notes 98…99 points’

We are also very happy that the wines can now be purchase at the Wine Exchange in California, whose Kyle Meyer was the first person in the world ever to publish a note about La Peira on (what we call around our way) Le Web…

France really needs a Gary Vaynerchuk.  If Languedoc’s Remi Gallard (Here, Here, and Here) had serious wine chops that would be perfect…

Full notes on the La Peira wines from Gary Vaynerchuk can be found here
